Yesterday I was thinking about the book Our Iceberg Melts, which was devoted to change management, and today I decided to continue the topic and remember the book “Project Phoenix”.
This book is about the process of change and is written in the format of a production novel reminiscent of Goldratt’s “The Purpose”.
I read this book in one sitting because I literally couldn’t stop reading it.) The main action of the novel takes place not in the factory, but in the habitat of it’s employees of Parts Unlimited. Bill, the lava hero of the book, stands out as an IT manager who was sent to solve the problems of an important initiative for the company, codenamed Project Phoenix. This project is critical for the company, but it is clearly going to hell. For additional motivation, Bill is told that he, along with his entire department, has a block to fix everything, otherwise they'll all go outside...
From what I liked about the book:
- recognizable entourage and problems:)
- easy and exciting presentation of material
- Good thoughts and correct conclusions
From what I didn't like:
- very slow main characters and a long movement to the final conclusions
- The main thing in the book is the guru of right process Eric, who is not of this world:) In general, the book is definitely worth reading.
