Yesterday, I had an interesting conversation with a colleague about the development of technical executives, in which I mentioned or referred to the list of books below.
The essence of our conversation boiled down to what is required to pump the technical manager as he transitions from the position of engineer to the position of technical team leader, and then a whole set of teams that together cover the needs of one of the business domains. We highlighted a few things that are important to him:
- Engineering skills and practices are his base he will bring from an engineer's position understanding of the business – it is important that he understands why this team or group of teams works, what the final product looks like for users and the automated business process Understanding how to properly build delivery - here it is important to note that without this item, execution is likely to fall Understanding how to work with people – teams are made up of people and their relationships, so you can’t get away from it either:)
As a result of our hour-long conversation, I made a list of what I recommend to read and see.
