Today I decided to remember the book “How to write non-fiction”. Tell the Millions About Complex Themes by Anne Jenzer.
The sensations of reading were once pleasant - the author writes books in general and books about writing books in particular:)
The book itself consists of three parts:
- Understand the reader
- How to explain abstract concepts
- How to write boringly
In the first part, the author consistently answers the questions in the chapters:
- Who is your reader?
- How to deal with a reader we don’t see and can’t get feedback right away (public speaking)
- How much do they need to know? 4What do they already know?
- What about a complex audience?
In the second part, Anne turns to practical advice on how to explain the complex: 6. Curiosity is your ally. 7. Abstract and concrete 8. Metaphors and comparisons 9. Narrative 10. The power of repetition
And the third part tells about how to present the material so that the reader does not jump off the crumb and finish reading what was written: 11. Intonation and style 12. Images and figurative expressions 13. Authority, sincerity and modesty 14. humour 15. How to find your unique style
In general, the book is good for those who plan to express their thoughts in text, for example, in the form of articles, essays or even books.
