I continue the story of this book with a review of the third and last part of Versions of You, where the author talks on his fingers about the geek mindset and how to successfully learn with different people, where each person is a different version of you:) Posts from other parts of the book are available here 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

38) Types of meetings This is a fun classification of meeting participants, which is not complete, but it is certainly funny:) The author highlights the following characters and talks about their behavior.

  • An anchor is a big deal. "It all comes down to me." Larry-Note sits on a laptop and does something. "Pardon, what did you say?"
  • Mr. I had nothing to do with it. I'm glad he was called.
  • Patty's chatter. "I never shut up."
  • Peter the translator. "I know all the cuts in the world, IMHO."
  • Sally's the essence synthesizer. "He wants to say that ..."
  • Kurt-twisted ball. It's like, "Buns fall from the sky."
  • Snake - "I'm a real anchor, shh..." In general, a very funny typology with recognizable patterns of interaction in meetings.

39) Incrementalists and Complementists Classification of engineers into two types Incrementalists know what to do here and now. Do not look far into the future, act tactically. Completionists are dreamers who have a good idea of how to solve a problem and their solution is the right one. The first lacks vision and the second lacks movement. To succeed, you need to mix them, but not shake them:)

40) Organics and mechanics Classification of managers, which can be useful for figuring out the type of their leader and building the right communication Organics move randomly in all directions, joke, ask questions that may seem meaningless at first. Mechanics - move rationally and methodically approach work Each type has features that are worth exploring before using:)

41) Extraurt, Introvert and Comprehensive Chapter about shades of leadership and level of leaders. In fact, mapping is like that. The introvert leader is directed inside the team and is usually the line manager. Comprehensive executives are usually middle managers, who maintain horizontal synchronization of teams and the achievement of common goals of the company. They try to capture all the available information. Extroverted executives are top managers whose focus is shifted outside the industry, investors, customers and customers. It is important to understand what kind of leader you have and how he is set in relation to his career.

42) Wolf In the modern world, this is a conversation about high-level engineers who solve engineering problems, have authority from colleagues, but do not want to manage. It is better to leave such track staff + engineers. Separately, the author notes that it will not work to appoint an ordinary engineer as a wolf - it will not pull.

43) Free electrons This chapter is about independent and super-productive engineers. (staff+)It is not easy to work with, so the author shares his advice. Constantly maintain their interest in work Misdirected work of such engineers can lead to unpredictable results. n Sometimes he doesn't get interested in the job and he doesn't explain what's wrong with the job. The free electron is still a member of the team. (and the attitude must be appropriate)
