I got this book six months ago, but I read it the other day. In it, Fabio Pereira talks about the basic principles of behavioral economics that can be applied in the digital world to subtly influence user decisions and behavior. The author introduces the concept of digital nudging, which is the use of subtle elements of design, information and interaction in a digital environment to control user behavior without limiting their freedom of choice. In fact, this is an adaptation of the nudge theory by Richard Thaler and Cass Sustein from the book Nudge. True, digital nudge is tailored to a digital context, such as websites, apps or online platforms, and uses interface elements such as default settings, visual cues, personalized recommendations and timely notifications to influence decision-making.

Key ideas of the book 1) Choice architecture (choice): How choices are presented in a digital environment can significantly influence user behavior. For example, the default settings (Automatic renewal of subscriptions) Users are often directed to certain activities. 2) Behavioral triggers (psychological triggers): Digital pushes rely on psychological principles, such as social proof. (For example, user reviews)scarcity (For example, "All that remains is 3 goods) Avoiding losses to stimulate desired behavior. 3) Personalization (personalization)“Nudges” can be adapted based on user data, such as preferences or real-time actions, to improve their effectiveness. 4) Low-cost interventions (cheapness): Digital pushes are inexpensive and minimally intrusive, making them a scalable solution to influence behavior across domains.

The author gives a large list examples digital nudges

  • Health and fitness: Promoting a healthier lifestyle or regular exercise through reminders and gamification elements. Productivity at work: Pushing employees to complete tasks or learn new tools with targeted notifications.
