Reading diary for my two-week vacation (Category Selection)

My vacation started. 5 August is coming to an end, so I decided to sum up my reading sprint for this year. 2 weekdays 1) Alibaba: The House That Jack Ma Built (Alibaba. The history of the world ascent from the first person) An interesting story about the rise of Jack Ma and his company, which became a giant of e-com in China, starting with cross-border b2b (Alibaba)Continuing with internal b2c (Taobao)and then adding a payment system. (AliPay and then Ant Group). The book came out in English. 2016 year 2) Developing Apps with GPT-4 and ChatGPT: Build Intelligent Chatbots, Content Generators, and More (Development of applications based on GPT-4 and ChatGPT.) A short book on the use of GPT4 to create applications. Nothing special, but the basics tell. The book came out in English. 2023 year. 3) This is our Moscow. A pleasant book with stories about different interesting corners of Moscow, which were written by readers of the channel about Moscow (Moskvarium.). Book 2022 year of publication. 4) Architecture of the House of Narkomfin yesterday and today An interesting story about the utopian house and the architecture of constructivism in general, which gained momentum in the early years of the USSR. Book 2023 year of publication. 5) Extreme programming: setting the process (Extreme Programming Applied: Playing to Win) A book about extreme programming (XP) from the start of my career (She appeared in Russian. 20 years ago, and in English a couple of years earlier.). In this book, the authors analyze what XP is and, most importantly, how to apply it in practice. Interestingly, most XP practices have become a de facto standard and don’t even need to be sold now, as they are considered to be some baseline for engineering practices. But in the early 2000s, XP lost the marketing war to other Agile approaches like Scrum and its variations - engineers didn't sing as beautifully as those who like to talk about processes and rituals, so scrum was much more famous than XP:). Book 2000 publication (original) 6) Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber (Battle for Uber) The story of a company that demonstrated the power of disruptive innovation, literally destroying the standard world of taxi drivers and dispatchers and building a beautiful and comfortable new world for passengers on the rubble. This revolution was led by Travis Kalanick, who valued results above all else and ignored the laws, twisting the hands of the authorities. The book came out in English. 2020 year 7) Managing Humans: Biting and Humorous Tales of a Software Engineering Manager (How to Manage Intellectuals: I'm Nerds & Geeks) - I read this book by Michael Lopp. (Michael Lopp) english 5 Years ago, by that time, it was no longer the first freshness. 3 re-release and the last was in 2016 year. I liked the book then - the author's style was light and humorous and in places quite accurately hit the goal. And on this holiday, I re-read the book in Russian, as at one time the publishing house "Peter" translated the book "Managing Humans" under the title "How to Manage Intellectuals". I then scolded the title and added it to my virtual list of books that fell under the rink of vandal translators:) The third English edition of the book was published in 2016 year 8) Like, Comment, Subscribe: Inside YouTube's Chaotic Rise to World Domination (YouTube. How did the most popular video hosting take over the world? ) This is a very interesting book by Mark Bergen about the birth, development and dominance of YouTube, which shows the backstage of this media empire. The book came out in English. 2022 year

All of these books I can recommend reading if you have a response to the main theme of the book, whether it is architecture of the last century, engineering processes or the success story of a bigtech company:)

P.S. During this time, I started reading a few more books, but I haven’t read them yet, so I won’t write about them.)
