An interesting lesson about how to turn a manuscript into a book yourself or with the help of your favorite publisher:)

The main thoughts I learned from this lesson are the following:

1. When working with a publishing house, it will be necessary to conclude an author's contract - there are contracts for alienation of rights and license agreements - the difference is as when selling an apartment vs. renting it out.
2. License agreements are more popular and they are also of two types: with exclusive rights or non-exclusive - a non-exclusive license agreement allows the author to conclude such contracts simultaneously with several publishers.
3. The composition of the contract should include the following: date and term of validity, preamble, subject of the contract, guarantees of authorship and what rights the author transfers to the publisher. It is important to list in detail all the rights that the author transfers to the publisher.
4. Remunerations to authors are different - advance for completed authors in the royalty offset or only royalties without advance
5. The terms of the contract can be discussed, asked clarifying questions and proposed changes that seem important to him.
6. The life cycle of the manuscript in the publishing house is quite complicated - everything is aimed at getting a high-quality product.
7. In the process of working on the book, the author interacts with a literary editor, scientific editor, proofreader, designer and art director.
8. The author does not have the right to make a final decision on the title of the book, the cover, theses and everything else - one should count on the professionalism of the above specialists who will not shoot themselves in the foot, worsening the book.
9. The number of all sorts of details that determine the quality of the book is skyrocketing - so the publishing house takes its percentage for the publication of the book for good reason. (Or you should take risks, organize all these processes and reap the benefits of samizdat yourself.)

As a result of this lesson, I realized that I definitely need to work with the publishing house - I do not feel the desire to bother with all these things, but I want to get a really cool book out, which is pleasant to hold in your hands, convenient to read, not shameful to give:) Judging by this course, the MYTH in this respect meets my expectations from the publishing house:) I like the professionalism of the experts leading the course, as well as working in the MIF practicing editors, marketers, etc.
