Another lesson from the course of book writing and book publishing from MIF was led by a PR manager, playwright and book reviewer. From this lesson I learned the following points:

  1. The success of the book can contribute to a personal brand, which can be enhanced by working with the media. This also helps with SEO. (Your name contains relevant information in search engines)
  2. The media is also profitable to work with authors - it helps them close the content hunger and get exclusive material, as well as save the energy of full-time journalists.
  3. It is important to understand which media are interesting to your audience and interact with them. Here it is useful to analyze media publications and their target audience. (Often the media have media kits for advertisers, where these things are described basic.)
  4. To analyze the media, you can read their social networks and comments of readers in them.
  5. Mass media are built in a pyramid: mass media are focused on beginners and do not immerse themselves in deep topics, thematic media such as the World of Fiction offer materials for professionals, pros and experts in thematic media are willing to pay for a quality product and do not make superficial judgments.
  6. Professionals and experts in thematic media are interested not only in books, but also in the functioning of the industry.
  7. You can also collaborate with book reviewers and bloggers – this helps launch word of mouth and literary networking.
  8. In general, in order to work effectively with all these people, you need a contact base that should be working, bring results, dynamic and relevant.
  9. The main elements of recording in the contact database: surname, name, media, address, e-mail, tg-channel.
  10. It is important to analyze the effectiveness of communication through your database and adapt approaches depending on the results. (There are many examples of how to write the right letters and messages.)
  11. In general, there is a whole pack of book materials that the author can offer to the media / observers / bloggers. Review: A brief description of new books to attract readers. Review: critical analysis and evaluation of works. Preprint: Excerpt from the book before it comes out. Thematic collection: recommendations of books on topics. Interviews: They are rare and require considerable literary capital. News: Large stories about significant events, such as the death of the author.
